Số nguyên tố là các số tự nhiên lớn hơn 1 nhưng không thể chia hết cho số nào khác trừ chính nó. Nó là các số không thể tách ra thành hai số tự nhiên nhỏ hơn nhau. Ví dụ như số 7 không thể tách ra thành tích của hai số nào khác ngoài 7. Do đó, số 7 được coi là số nguyên tố.
